Financial Benchmarking and Transparency

As a maintained school, Belton All Saints Church of England Primary School is required to publish financial information in line with government guidance to ensure transparency and accountability.

We confirm that no employees at the school have a gross annual salary of £100,000 or more.

The Department for Education provides a national financial benchmarking service which allows schools to compare their income and expenditure with similar schools and academy trusts across England.

You can view our school’s financial data here: Your school - Financial Benchmarking and Insights Tool - GOV.UK

What is Benchmarking

The financial benchmarking service allows comparison across a range of key areas, including:

Income

  • Funding received per pupil
  • Additional funding streams (e.g. SEND, Pupil Premium)

Expenditure

  • Teaching staff costs
  • Supply staff and agency costs
  • Educational support staff (including teaching assistants)
  • Administrative and clerical staff
  • Premises and maintenance costs
  • Learning resources (including ICT)
  • Energy and utilities

Staffing Structure

  • Staff-to-pupil ratios
  • Leadership costs
  • Deployment of support staff

Reserves and Balances

  • Revenue balances
  • Surplus or deficit trends

Cost per Pupil

  • Overall spending per pupil compared to similar schools
  • Schools are compared against others with similar characteristics, such as:
  • pupil numbers
  • levels of disadvantage
  • SEND profile
  • phase and location

How We Use Benchmarking

Leaders and governors use this information to ensure that:

  • Resources are used efficiently and with maximum impact on pupil outcomes
  • Spending decisions are evidence-informed and strategically aligned
  • Staffing structures support high-quality teaching and inclusion
  • The school delivers value for money while maintaining high standards
  • Benchmarking is considered alongside:
  • pupil progress and attainment
  • curriculum priorities
  • SEND and inclusion needs
  • This ensures financial decisions are always linked to educational impact, not just cost.

Governance and Accountability

The Governing Body plays a key role in reviewing financial benchmarking data. This includes:

  • Regular monitoring of school spending
  • Challenging and supporting leadership decisions
  • Ensuring compliance with statutory financial requirements
  • Maintaining a clear focus on best value for money
